Today we make a start on Béné’s rear suspension and strip all the parts down and give them a clean. There’s a bit of play in some of the joints and it’s never quite been perfect since it had a problem in Kazakhstan when the bearings were replaced but we were not able to fit a new bush which was badly worn. We’ll see if we can buy some new bearings and a replacement bush while it’s all apart.

For lunch, we go to a local Chinese restaurant in the town of Churchill and in the afternoon go to visit some friends of Tony and Linda who have recently moved into their new home after their old house was completely destroyed by the bushfires two years ago. They unfortunately lost just about everything and don’t even have a photo of the old house. The new house is really nice and has a lovely feel to it, but sadly some of the garden has been overtaken with weeds. We don’t mind lending a hand so we grab some overalls, gloves and tools and set to work for an hour with Tony and Linda chopping down the weeds

As a result of the fires and clearing of the trees, this has allowed other plants to come back like a rare horny orchid which we manage to get a picture of.

In the afternoon, the work on the bikes continues and we finish stripping Béné’s bike down. In the evening we find that we have a huntsman spider in the Kitchen which Carl skilfully removes with the help of a long brush.
